Updating MasterPage RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I update a masterpage, is there any chance that I could lose existing doc libraries or files?

  • Hi,

A master page defines the shared framing elements such as the chrome for all pages in SharePoint site.

It won’t affect contents e.g. libraries/lists/documents in SharePoint. Depend on your customization in master page, it will affect the UI in SharePoint.

    Thanks,

  • Not really.  Updating a master page could keep you from accessing them until you reset the master page, but the master page just controls how the UI is formatted and doesn't have any effect on storage in document libraries.
