  • Hi,

    When installing sql server 2014 in windows authentication mode do all administrators on the windows box\server have access to login to sql management studio by default?  I could login with administrator account installed under bu not sure if other administrators n the box would also be able to login.

    No, SQL Server has it's on security/permission system and only those Windows accounts, who has granted permssions, can logon, also not if they are Windows admins.

  • No, automatically adding local administrators was removed in SQL 2008.

    When you installed SQL Server, you were prompted for the security groups to add as sysadmins.

  • ...but any locak admin can start SQL Server in single user mode and then connect to your SQL Server. I.e., there is no way to hide info from a windows administrator in the end. Unless you encrypt the database and make sure that the Windows administrators don't have the keys, of course.
