App pools fail to start after OS upgrade RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello -

I recently did an in-place O/S upgrade of one of our web servers (from Windows 2008 R2 to Windows 2012 R2).   Whenever I try to start any of the application pools in IIS, I get the error below.   Any easy way to repair this?

The worker process for application pool 'FIN.WS' encountered an error 'The configuration section 'microsoft.applicationServer' cannot be read because it is missing a section declaration
' trying to read configuration data from file '\\?\C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\web.config', line number '517'.  The data field contains the error code.
