Adding default text to SharePoint text box RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a SharePoint list that has a text box that people need to fill in information - I was wondering if there was any way to pre-populate the text box so every time a new record is created, the field will pre-populate with some info?

  • Byron,

I assume, you are referring to Multiline lines of text field. According to my knowledge, there is no workaround using OOTB to default the text in Multiline text box.

    Thanks,

  • Yes. You can set the default value for a single line of text field in SharePoint list. You can find this option under column settings page under, Additional Column Settings -> Default Value: select "Text" and the default text in the text box.

    Hope this helps...

  • Veera,

I know about this option (when the list item is a single line of text) - but do you know if there is some workaround to do this for a list item that is a text box?

  • Thanks Veera,

It looks like I am out of luck for now,- maybe MS will add this feature to a later release.
