ExpressionMedia 2 and screen previews extraction? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Is it possible in Expression Media 2 sp1 to do that:
    Email or Burn Low-Res Previews
Portfolio makes it easy to email proofs to clients, partners and others by generating low-res JPEG previews and allowing you to email them directly within Portfolio. Also burn JPEG previews to a CD/DVD.

In Extensis Portfolio, it was possible to use the generated lowres preview. It was really useful when you have the catalog in local but the original files on a server and you're not connected to it and you still want to send some lowres (max 1280 pixels) picture files to your client.

In other terms, how can we use the embedded full screen previews created by EM2 (through the "Thumbnails and Previews" prefs panel without the original files?
There's no "extract screen previews" in any menus?

    Thanks.

  • Hello,

Yes, there is no extract full screen previews option in Expression Media and our options are very limited if the original files are offline. However what you can do is print the catalog as PDF (File > Print, Media Sheet/Full Page) using any third party PDF maker and then you can email the PDF to your clients. The ordinal files are not required to print the catalog if it has been created with embedded full screen previews.

  • Hi Nicholas,

That's a full feature request, and as such is not within the scope of a service pack. However, I doubt that the dev team would consider that anyway. The reason for the way Expression Media is designed is to protect you from image theft. You can create a catalog with full screen previews and send it to a client with confidence that they can't extract your images and use them without compensation.

  • MMh. thanks for the tips but I insist on the fact that for a professional software like EM, it's a shame there's no such option to extract an existing embedded full screen preview (like Extensis Portfolio can do by the way).
Would it be that hard to implement it on the next sp2?

    thx.
