Jasper for Orcas Beta2 RRS feed

  • Question

  •

Will there be a new CTP that runs on Beta2? Since ADO Entity Framework for Orcas Beta2 is not released yet, will new CTP closely follow Entity Framework for beta2?

The documentation says this project is only for languages that support late binding only. So this means you can not use it from C#. Can you confirm?

    Thanks.

  • Correct. Due to the nature of dynamic programming, Project Jasper can only be used with languages that support late binding, and cannot be used with C#.

As far as a CTP that runs on Beta 2, the ADO.NET team is working hard to quickly release the Entity Framework Beta 2. We have begun to investigate whether or not it would be valuable to produce a Jasper release on top of Beta 2, and we would really like to further understand your scenarios to aid in our investigation.

As for using Jasper from C#, I wrote a post about this a while back that might help answer the question:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/aconrad/archive/2007/05/04/jasper-and-c.aspx

    Short answer:

As long as the developer is ok defining their own Entity CLR types and any fields/ properties they plan to access, then Jasper will work just fine in C#.  In reality the Jasper framework doesn't even know what language the developer is using, just that they have preferred to define a few our their types that they wish for the framework to extend.

As Jasper migrates to the DLR, this becomes a more interesting question and will depend on how DLR objects are exposed in C#.

With the release of Entity Framework Beta 2, will there be a Jasper CTP that works with beta 2?

    Thanxs.
