System.Speech - VS 2008 - The System cannot find the reference specified RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,
I have a problem with adding a reference to system.speech (from .Net 3.0) to my visual basic project under visual studio 2008 and vista (additionally .NET 3.5 SP1 is installed).

I can add the resource via "add reference" / ".Net", it is in the list with the following infos:
    System.Speech, Version: 3.0.0.0., Runtime v2.0.50727, Path C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0\System.Speech.dll

When I add it, it is shown in the list of added references, but with the follwing error message:
System.Speech, Type .Net, Version 0.0.0.0, Copy Local: False, Path <The system cannot find the reference specified>

I ran "sfc /scannow", but it did'nt find any errors.

Does anybody know how i can fix this?

    Thanks.
      Stefan

    Hello,

Please make sure under folder “C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0\”, System.Speech.dll exists.   Then please try to add reference under “Browse” Tab, navigate to “C:\Program Files\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\v3.0\System.Speech.dll”, then add the reference.

            Thanks,

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,

    thanks for your reply!
I checked the path, System.Speech.dll exists:

    Fileversion: 3.0.6920.1109
    Productversion: 3.0.6920.0
    Filesize: 672 KB (688.128 Bytes)

I tried to add it over the "Browse" tab of "Add Reference", but it shows still the same error (
<The system cannot find the reference specified>).

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks!

  • Hello,

So, at first please disable your anti-virus software temporarily, and then have another try.   Supposed no effect, then please reset the Visual Studio settings (devenv /ResetSettings) and also run Visual Studio in safe mode (devenv /SafeMode) to avoid some corruption in settings and some effect caused by third party Add-In.   For detail, please check Visual Studio Devenv Command Line Switches.   Also no results then, please create another new user account of your Windows system, to avoid some user profile issues.

            Thanks,

    Best Regards,

  • Hello,
    thanks for your help again.

"devenv /ResetSettings" and "devenv /SafeMode" didnot have any effect, but after changing the user account it worked on the new account.

Sadly it still doesnot work with my user account...

Do you have an idea, how i can fix it?

    Ciao!

    Hello,

At this situation, I think your user profile has been corrupted.   In order to avoid some further corruption effect, I recommend you to open some important information like Desktop shortcuts and some private user file to the new user account folder.

          Thanks,
