SSMS 17.3 any Syntax-Highlighting RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

Just intalled SSMS, but any syntax-highlighting.

    Very disturbing

Everything is ok in in Tools | Options | Environnement | Fonts and Colors.

Do you have some trouble with syntax-highlighting too ?

    Thanks.

  • What exactly do you mean and what is missing? Can you show how your query window looks like?

This is what I have and I don't think I have any trouble.

Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 14.0.17199.0
Microsoft Analysis Services Client Tools 14.0.1008.227
Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 10.0.14393.0
    Microsoft MSXML 3.0 4.0 6.0
    Microsoft Internet Explorer 9.11.14393.0
    Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0.30319.42000
    Operating System 6.3.14393

Few of your components seem to be higher versions than mine including OS. I am not sure why is that, I think I'm up to date on everything.

  • Hi Laurent Pasquier,

According to your description, it looks like that some syntax-highlighting in your SSMS is wrong while the option in Fonts and Colors is true. For instance, we set the color of character string to Red but we see it in the query window is black.

Which operation system did you use? We cannot reproduce this problem but based on my searching, it occurs on many Windows Server 2016 OS and Windows 2012R2 OS, I suggest you opening a case in https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer

    Best Regards,

    Teige

  • Yesterday i used the upgrade installer from version 17.2 to 17.3 => i lost my syntax-highlighting.
Here is some example (comments no green, string not red, system function not pink, keywords not bleu and table name not green.

Sorry i definitively would attach a screen shot, but i can't because of :

<... Body text cannot contain images or links until we are able to verify your account...>

This morning i removed my French 17.3 SSMS version.
Downloaded and installed the English US 17.3 version => my syntax-highlighting is perfectely operationnal.

    Conclusion :
    > Maybe the problem comes from the update package from 17.x to 17.3

    Thanks all for your feedback.
    Laurent.

  • Hi Laurent Pasquier,

Yes, I also found some other people meeting a similar problem after upgrading to SSMS 17.3, because I cannot reproduce this problem, I suggest you reporting it with https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer, you can attach some pictures in it.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Laurent,

For you first problem about not being able to post images, you just need to be verified (there is a special thread in the Forums Issues forum).

However, since you got 10 points already because of this thread, you should be able to now post images and links, I think.

  • The issue returned :-(

No SQL Colors at all, Independent of the file Extension

I uninstalled and reinstalled 17.3 SSMS entirely, but the issue is still there.

  • Having same issue.  Did you find any fixes?  I have deinstalled everything (SSMS and SQL Server), and it didn't do the trick.

    Thanks.
