SQL Database Managed Instance required if I want to connect on-premise data sources/destinations?

    Question

  • Hi

I'm not sure how to interpret documentation, so I ask directly. If I want to connect on-premise data sources/destinations with my Data Factory SSIS Integration Runtime with VNet configuration, do I need Azure SQL Database Managed Instance for my SSISDB or is "regular" Azure SQL Database enough?

  • Hi,

You package execution will need to be able to access the on-premise data src/dest, so as long as you configure the vNet of SSIS IR properly, it should work. As for the SSISDB, you can use MI or normal SQL Azure, but you need to make sure the SSIS IR in your vNet can access the SSISDB. Thanks.
