reading Hebrew from TXT file RRS feed

  • Question

  • Am having trouble reading Hebrew strings from .txt file.

    For testing, I create the file in Notepad, with Hebrew and English characters, and save it with either UTF-8, Unicode, and Unicode Big Endian encoding. None of them works. A test SB program shows the Hebrew as a bunch of question marks, while perfectly showing the others.

    What am I doing wrong? Missing some arcane command is SB? Can Notepad++ help?

    Thank you all.

  • Hi ilanel, can you show the Hebrew text here?  SB can read UTF-8 only.  I could save a UTF-8 file with "שלום עולם" using Notepad and show the result with following SB program.

    path = "c:\Users\Nonki\Desktop\Hebrew.txt"
    txt = File.ReadContents(path)
    GraphicsWindow.DrawText(10, 10, txt)
    And I use Windows 10.
