Machine Translation & Dictionary Support in SharePoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

    Hope you are doing good.

We at S&P Global Market Intelligence, use SharePoint 2013's machine translation function to machine translate documents in batch for our internal use purpose. We are looking at volume of more than 2,50,000 + documents machine translation every year. Recently we came to know that, Microsoft has launched collaborative translation framework (CTF) for it's machine translation API, which can be used to upload custom dictionaries to MS API, and improve machine translation with help of custom dictionaries. On the related note, we have questions in reference to SharePoint 2013 machine translation support, which are as follows.

    1) Does SharePoint have any functionality similar to CTF for MS API, where we can upload our custom dictionaries to improve machine translation of SharePoint 2013?

    2) Can we attach custom translation memories to SharePoint for improving machine translation quality?

    3) If such functionality is not available, can Microsoft or any other developer team help us here to develop such framework, which can allow us to use SharePoint machine translation along with custom dictionaries / Translation Memories?

    4) We are also ready to upgrade our SharePoint version to latest, in case if functionality of machine translation with custom dictionary or translation memory support is available.

We are also ready to work with a team who can help us to customize it for our requirements.

Please let us know if you need any further help information in this regard.

    Thanks & Regards,

  • Hi Harshad,

Actually, the translation work is performed in the Microsoft Translator, a cloud-hosted machine translation service, the Machine Translation Service in your SharePoint farm is responsible for submitting the translation requests to this cloud service.

Thus, you might need to do the customization on the Microsoft Translator side.

About how to build a custom translation system on Microsoft Translator to integrate with an on-premises site, my suggestion is that, it would be better to contact the Support of Microsoft Translator for expecting a confirmed answer:

    Best regards,
