    'http://download.microsoft.com/download/7/0/3/703455ee-a747-4cc8-bd3e-98a615c3aedb/dotNetFx35setup.exe';

    When i am installing it on windows server 2003 enterprise edition 32 bit+Sp1(win2k3-r2-32-sp1), i am seeing the bellow error code "1603", when i googled it i found this is a fatal error, but not sure what exactly is teh reason behind it.

  • Hi jaligama_saketh

    Since you are running the installation of .NET Framework via web-installer, it is possible that Setup cannot get the resource because of network environment. But if the installation was on a fresh computer and a healthy network environment. I think this issue can be eliminated.

    It seems you do not want to add the package to your setup. I recommmend you check your customers' network environment first. Make sure they are not running from a proxy.

  • To help you we need to see the details in your install logs. Please provide logs as follows:

    collect your install logs with this:

    http://aka.ms/vscollect

    After you run Collect.exe, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Please upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, and post the link here.

    Also, please use this tool to show us the .NET Frameworks installed on your system:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx

    Run the tool with .NET 2.0 selected, then post the first 15 lines and the last 15 lines of output here.

  • Hi,

    1603 is a common error without details. Please gather logs for us as MVP mentioned.

  • When I try to access you logs, I get an error message indicating that you have not shared the vslogs files so others can see/download them.

    Right click on your vslogs files in SkyDrive, select Share, then follow the prompts to get a public link.

  • I see issues like these in your logs:

     setup.exe: ***ERRORLOG EVENT*** : CSetupManager::Run() - Call to RunInstall() failed

     ISetupComponent::Pre/Post/Install() failed in ISetupManager::InternalInstallManager() with HRESULT -2147467260.
    [09/10/12,23:17:42] setup.exe: [2] CSetupManager::RunInstallPhase() - Call to Pre/Install/Post for InstallComponents failed

    Call to InternetOpenUrl() failed

    Are you trying to use the web installer?

    Try the standalone cumulative installer:

  • Hi,

    We have a installer of our product which will actually download the dotnet web installer and install it on the machine, already our installer is a bit huge in size so we cannot again package this 231 mb installer.

    One more interesting stuff here is, when i install the web installer for first time on a fresh box i am facing the issue, but again when i re run it, its succeeding.

  • The issue may due to corrupt download. Do it mean you can install .NET without any problem now?
