Does WindowsMediaPlayer12 support MPEG-4 movie? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a project which uses ffmpeg. And it encodes a movie as MPEG-4(mp4v) instead of H.264(avc1). But the encoded movie cannot play on WindowsMediaPlayer12.

If I uses avc1 instead of mp4v, WMP12 can play the movie. Does WMP12 support mp4v? If yes, could somebody tell me the detail of supported profile, etc?

    Thanks,

  • I've solved it. It's not a codec issue. Actually, WMP12's error message is wrong.

My code had a problem on construction of MP4 container . Thus a box size was wrong. But WMP12 says "codec isn't supported".

After I fixed the box issue, it can be played correctly.
