  • On the Windows 7 WDK you do not need this for building a Windows 7 device driver.  The Windows 7 WDK was issued with Windows 7, but later WDK's including the one for Windows 10 will build a driver compatible with Windows 7 OS.  The Windows 7 WDK is the last WDK that comes with the compiler in the package, and used a command line approach.

  • by universal, do you mean running on 7, 8, and 10? or universal, as in the universal driver platform defined on windows 10 that allows your driver to run on multiple types of hardware like phone, pc, etc?

  • I have installed SDK and WDK 10.

I have a copy of WDK 7 also.

How can i integrate WDK 7 to Visual Studio 2015?

How to build drivers for windows 7 platform?

In Visual Studio 2015, after i installed WDK 10 and SDK , only windows 10 and 8.1 target platform versions are available.

I need to run the driver in windows 7.

  • I was trying to create a universal hello world driver (KMDF) using VS 2015 as instructed in the following MSDN article.

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh439665%28v=vs.85%29.aspx

I am using VS 2015 along with WDK 10. I am running these in a windows 7 32 bit PC. I have also installed a copy of WDK 7 but its not integrated to VS 2015.In this i am not able to change the target platform to windows7, only windows 8.1 and 10 are listed.

Do i need to install any other tools?

While building the driver using VS 2015, an error occurs :

"command-line error:exception handling option can be used only when compiling c++"

But in the article it is specified that program shoul save as .c file.

    Please help...
