Not able to connect accounts to msdn subscription RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi!

Our company Kendox has a MSDN subscription. A few month ago we decided that one team should switch to VS2013 and if everything is fine the rest of the people should follow. We downloaded and installed VS2013 Premium, created live-id's with our company email address and started working. Everything worked so far. Only problem was that our licenses remained in trial mode although all our accounts had been mapped to our company. We thought ok, maybe it will take some days but nothing happened. Our boss then asked for help directly at Microsoft but they were not able to figure it out.

Yesterday the 70 days (!) trial mode ended end we are no longer able to work with VS2013 and all of us had to switch back to VS2010. Not so great. We really think that VS2013 is a great product. Unfortunately it seems that there is a big problem with mapping windows-live-id's with msdn subscriptions.

Could you please explain me why this is so hard?

    Regards,
    M.Netzer

  • There's lots to your question here Mario, but the first thing that jumps out at me is that you say your company has an MSDN Subscription.  MSDN Subscriptions are per-user, there are no such things as team subscriptions.  V

So first you need to make sure that everyone who wants to use MSDN has their own separate MSDN Subscription at your company.

If you have done so, disregard the above and we'll work on the next problem:

For Visual Studio 2013, each user needs to sign in to Visual Studio 2013 using same Microsoft Account/Live ID that they use for their MSDN Subscription.  This will make the activation work.

Where did your boss ask for help?  Did they open a ticket here:

    1. http://www.visualstudio.com/support-overview-vs
    2. Click Visual Studio tile (not the VSO one)
    3. Follow through and select:
    4. Problem type: installation
    5. Category: Product registration and licensing

    Thanks,
    Mike
