Word 2007 - "Word Cannot Start the Converter MSWRD632.WPC" RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

I'm new to using the Document.OpenXML assembly.  I'm using the SDK 2.0 and have just made my first word document with a simple text.  However, when I go to open this document, I get the following error:

"Word Cannot Start the Converter MSWRD632.WPC"

Is this a problem, or because I haven't completely constructed the document?  I'm mostly concerned because we are planning on doing this for our entire office and I don't want the whole office to have problems with the documents we create via OpenXML, etc.

  • Hello Sdfsda,

Thanks for posting. Actually, I am not very good at Open XML SDK. However, I will try to give you some useful information for this issue. By researching for a while, here is a KB article about this error and a workaround:

Also here are two threads about this error. Please check them and see if they could help you.

Word cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc in MS word 2010:

embedding word 2010 (ole automation): opening .docx files yields 'Word cannot start the converter mswrd632.wpc':

If the information above does not help you, would you please test more on your side? Does this issue only happen on this document generated by using Document.OpenXML assembly?

    Have a nice day.

  • Yes, this only happens when generating a document via OpenXml.  Also, have not tried this in Office 2010.

  • Hi sdfsda,

The moderator, Bessie Zhao, provided links to a Microsoft KnowledgeBase article -;EN-US;973904

You should start by reviewing that article.

Bessie also mentioned several other Forum threads where the developer reported the same problem. There are several additional forum threads reporting this error. Exploring those you learn that the design of the .docx file is a factor - does the document have embedded Ole items, is it developed and running on Windows 32-bit, or Windows 64-bit, does it contain content controls, does it have macros and other attributes. You can get more ideas about the range of causes if you do a Bing query using the argument
"Word Cannot Start the Converter MSWRD632.WPC".

The error you're getting suggests that your simple .xml document is sound. If it weren't, when you told Microsoft Word to open it you'd be told that it isn't a valid Word document. If you have another machine with either Microsoft Word 2007 or 2010 try opening your document on that.

Look at the other forum cases Bessie mentioned, and others you'll encounter in Bing search, to understand what MSWRD623.WPC is and does.
