Does SharePoint 2010 provide CHATTING features? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I think we can use Office Communication Server for web chatting or we need to use third party solutions for Web Chatting?

    Any Suggestions will be appreciated..

Answers

  • Found Ajax Based Third party Chat webpart.

Below are the features supported by the third party chat web part.

     - team chats - such as daily scrum developer meetings
    - Q & A sessions with executive teams and staff
    - Quick conversations rather than clogging up email
    - group chats right in your SharePoint workspace
    - no need to install anything on the client

  • One more solution would be SharePoint 2010 integration with Exchange 2010 and Office Communications Server 2007 R2.

OCS 2007 R2 features are as follows:-

    Web conferencing
Integration with current phone system or connect it to a PSTN via a gateway
Video conferencing, in LCS this was only available in a user-to-user call
All traffic between clients and server-to-server communication is encrypted
Allows synchronization between Exchange, OCS and other enterprise applications
Presence information can be seen by other applications such as SharePoint and Exchange

  • I am thinking that Light-weighted application using WCF web service architecture would be required to achieve this solution.
