Desktop Gadgets Not Suspended

  • I have two desktop gadgets open; weather and clock.  With Task Manager running, I see that These gadgets are consuming 1% of the processor time, even though i'm in the metro view.

Is it possible to suspend these when switching away from the Windows desktop?

  • I'm fairly certain that gadgets will not be included in the final version of Windows 8. I know of no way to suspend the gadgets in the Developer Preview.

  • I don't think any legacy desktop applications are suspended.

  • Hey JeffGWM,

For additional information, take a look at the information provided in the Build session linked below regarding Metro style applications and Process Lifetime Management.

  • Thanks Steven,

I'm running the Developer's Preview (DP) on a tablet and it seems that suspending the desktop apps would benefit the battery as well.  I'm learning the distinctions between Metro and the Desktop by having DP on this tablet. I expect in the future the Desktop will play less and less of a role.
