  • Question

  • In a misguided attempt to update my Entity Designer in Visual Studio.NET 2010 for Entity Framework 5.0, I installed the EF July 2011 CTP (http://blogs.msdn.com/b/adonet/archive/2011/06/30/announcing-the-microsoft-entity-framework-june-2011-ctp.aspx) after I installed SSDT. The two did not play nicely together, so I reinstalled SSDT.

The designer is working now, but I still get an error when using the database Wizard. I am experiencing the same issue as described in this forum discussion (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/adodotnetentityframework/thread/819557ba-29ac-49aa-83cf-25fc128c24ed), but I don't have a copy of version 10.1.0.0 of the Microsoft.VisualStudio.Data.Tools.Design.Common.dll.

Any ideas on how I can resolve the issue?

  • Hi Andre,

SSDT does not provide any integration with EF, so I'd suggest following up directly with the EF team on their forum to resolve your issue: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/adodotnetentityframework/threads

  • Thanks for the quick response. I have done so here:

(Apologies for not putting in the href's, but the forum won't allow me to post links without a verified email, even though my email has been verified)

  • Have you unistalled the June CTP (see my blog post on why you don't want to have the June CTP on your box: http://blog.3d-logic.com/2012/04/11/entity-framework-zombie-a-k-a-microsoft-entity-framework-june-2011-ctp/). I think you should unistall SSDT, unistall June CTP, repair your VS installation, install SSDT.

Hope this will fix your issue.

  • I uninstalled SSDT and the June CTP, and repaired VS, which did not resolve the problem. I also reinstalled SSDT, which did not help. I'm going to remove VS and install it again.
