Seek info on integrating new DB server with EF RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm seeking any and all information on how I might provide EF support for a currently unsupported database server. Could anyone point me to where that doc might be? I expect there's some somewhere, most likely on a Microsoft site.

    Thanks in advance!

    If the database is not in the list of supported database servers, which
    there is a list on Bing and Goggle articles, then it's not supported.

  • Hi SixFootGlass;

    You will be able to use Entity Framework as long as there is an available Entity Framework Data Providers for the database engine that you are using. If you are using a third party database please check out the Third-Party Providers for the Entity Framework link on the following link :

  • Maybe I was not clear enough. I am looking for information on how to write a provider for EF as I have done in the past for ADO.Net. Naturally, there is not yet a provider for this particular database server or I would not be asking. I am not confused. I know what a provider is. I just need to find some information on this matter. Presumably, it is on a Microsoft website but I have not been able to locate any thus far. It is not something commonly detailed in either books, blogs or other documentation.

    Hopefully the question is now sufficiently clear and thanks in advance if anyone can supply information.

    Maybe you can get some information from this developer Joseph Albahari.

  • Hi,

    Try http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee789835.aspx (Writing an Entity Framework Data Provider).
