How to start a Metro App?

    Question

  • Two Questions:

    1. How to start a Metro App in desktop App?

    2. How to start a Metro App in another Metro App?

If use "LaunchDefaultProgramForFile" API, how to associate  file to a Metro app?

I have tried to edit registry to associate file to a Metro app, but it looks like doesn't work.

    Thanks~

    Eric

  • Hi Eric,

Metro apps cannot specifically start other applications.  They can launch documents to run in the default handler for that document type.

Document types are associated with Metro style apps via the "File Type Associations" declaration in the manifest.

See Quickstart: Working with files .

Please post questions about desktop app development in the Windows Desktop Development forums at http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windowsdesktopdev.  If you search the General Windows Desktop Development Issues forum you should find previous discussions of launching Metro style apps with some sample code.
