Outlook 2013 miss MaiItem Write event when user selects an email and then chooses "Mark as UnRead" or "Mark as Read" RRS feed

  • Question

  • In Outlook 2013 and the Reading Pane is turned ON for Inbox folder.

When a user right mouse clicks an email in the Inbox folder and chooses context menu "Mark as Unread" or "Mark as Read" if the email is in unread state. Outlook fires only the mail item's AfterWrite event but without Write event. Outlook should fire the Write event before AfterWrite event.

Outlook 2010 use to has the same bug. I believe it was fixed recently.

  • Technically speaking, the message is not saved when its read/unread state changes.

On the MAPI level, IMessage::SetReadFlag does not require a call to IMessage::SaveChange (which is probably what Write event is wired to) and the last modified date of the message does not change.

PropertyChange event however fires as expected with the "UnRead" parameter.
