Problem with the bthecho demo from WinDDK RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello. I am trying to use the Bluetooth L2CAP echo server&client from the WDK samples.

    I have successfully installed the server portion on Win8 x86 (build 9200). I have also successfully installed the client portion on Windows 7 professional x64 SP1 (build 7601). Both windows are free (not checked) and both drivers appears to be working properly in device manager.

    Pairing the bluetooth devices between machines was successful as well.

    Problem is when running bthecho.exe - it keeps failing in CreateFile and reports error 1167 ("the device is not connected"). The device path it gets looks like this:

    \\?\bthenum#{c07508f2-b970-43ca-b5dd-cc4f2391bef4}_vid&00010006_pid&0001#8&ebdf56e&0&00268311718c_c00000000#{fc71b33d-d528-4763-a86c-78777c7bcd7b}

    I should also mention that in both machines, there is a successful bluetooth connection to other physical devices such as headset or bt mouse.

    Last comment: when checking with SysInternal's winobj.exe, this device path is a symbolic link to a device that (as expected..) cannot be opened (winobj says that the device is not connected).

    What should be the next step in finding root cause for this error?
