How to programmatically prevent an url from executing inside a mail content/body RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Developers,

Am building a tracking application , wherein i embedded an url inside the message body - something of the following format : <img src = http://someurl.com> . I expect the url to be called when the recipients open the mail . However would want to prevent the url from calling when I (sender) click on my sent items to view the mail. Presently when i click on the mail in the sent items , the URL is triggered to the server! - I want to prevent this from happening especially inside my sent items!!

    Appreciate any help.

FYI am using the MS outlook plugin 2013 development kit to develop my plugin application.

    Thanks

    Vineeth.

  • Hello,

The Outlook object model (nor Word) doesn't provide any event for that.

  • Two thoughts come to mind --

    1) Use the general options of outlook to prevent it from downloading external content.  This would apply to all mail and I believe you gain some finer control through the junk mail options.

    2) Use Window's  hosts file to associate an unreachable IP address or localhost with someurl.com. That would prevent items in your sent mail folder from reaching the actual server.

    Good luck.
