  • Question

  • Hi folks,

We currently support an on-premises Windows VDI deployment running using Microsoft Volume License VDA (per device) licensing for Windows, and have paid for an FSLogix license directly. This environment was built up just prior to the FSLogix acquisition announcement.

With the Microsoft purchase, we’ve been advised that FSLogix products will no longer be sold directly.

Unfortunately, Microsoft Volume License VDA (per device) licensing is NOT in the list of licenses under which FSLogix is included from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-au/fslogix/overview

With the FSLogix license renewal coming up in a few months, what options do we have to continue using FSLogix in our environment? Will we be forced to migrate to an alternative solution, or will Microsoft include FSLogix in per-device VDA licensing too? Unfortunately, the volume license agreement for VDA specifies a 3 year term, which is not even a year in yet, so we're kinda stuck with it.

As you might appreciate, this is a matter of some concern for us.

Can anyone at Microsoft advise? Thanks!

(I was originally trying to direct this at the old FSLogix sales email address, but that appears to no longer accept email. If there's a more appropriate venue to address this, please advise!)

  • Hello Nathanael,

The list of licenses that include FSLogix is found at:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/overview#requirements

If you have additional questions, please contact sales@fslogix.com to confirm if your scenario is covered by any of your existing licenses.

  • Hi,

The list of licenses that include FSLogix is found at:

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/overview#requirements

I linked that very same page (in Australian English rather than US English but same content):

Unfortunately, Microsoft Volume License VDA (per device) licensing is NOT in the list of licenses under which FSLogix is included from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-au/fslogix/overview

I know the list. That's what I'm asking about. The list appears to be incomplete and leaves existing customers in an awkward position.

If you have additional questions, please contact sales@fslogix.com to confirm if your scenario is covered by any of your existing licenses.

I'd love to, but as I mentioned at the bottom of my original post:

(I was originally trying to direct this at the old FSLogix sales email address, but that appears to no longer accept email. If there's a more appropriate venue to address this, please advise!)

That address appears to be rejecting email at present.

If I have an environment licensed under Per-Device VDA licensing, and a current FSLogix license subscription, how do I continue to use FSLogix once the current subscription expires?

    Thanks.

  • I apologize, I see now that I just told you what you already said. :-)
Let me see if I can find you a contact that still works for the FSLogix Sales team.

  • I just tested and sales@fslogix.com accepted mail from me. So, I don't know if it is only disabled for receiving mail from external users. If you can't contact sales any other way, you could open a support ticket from: https://support.fslogix.com/

According to: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/install-ht the new version of FSLogix will no longer prompt for a license key. It is honor system that you are eligible for a license.

    The installation article also says:

If legacy FSLogix customers must continue to use an older version, the following key may be used MSFT0-YXKIX-NVQI4-I6WIA-O4TXE.

  • I did some more research and it looks like this is the new FSLogix Sales email address:

    fsfwsale@microsoft.com

    I hope that helps!

  • Thanks Micah, I've sent an email to that address now.

Yes, the fslogix.com domain no longer seems to have a public MX record, so mail is being delivered to the root domain (so probably web) server for fslogix.com, which tells you to go away :)

The honor system is great and in a pinch we might have to rely on it but trying to stay within Microsoft's legal licensing and support arrangements.

I'll update here (if I can) when/if I get some answers via the fsfwsale@microsoft.com address.

    Thanks!

  • Okay, so got a reply from the new sales line.

The person replying was sympathetic, but after listing the same details as above, said

Microsoft no longer sells FSLogix, so there are no alternative methods to acquire the technology. You might want to consider Liquidware as a viable alternative. I wish I had a better answer for you, but these are the stated guidelines above.

Which is kinda not cool of Microsoft. (not so much the guy answering, he's kind of trapped in policy)

I'm hoping there's a way to get the relevant person/people within Microsoft to review whether Per-User VDA should be included on that list?

    Thanks!

  • Wow, that is a completely wrong answer. We will get you taken care of. Please contact me directly.
