FTP to Remote Desktop RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a remote desktop server hosted by a third party.

There are only a couple of user that can Remote into the server itself, however, I need to set up a Whitelist of external IP addresses that would have the ability to FTP files over to this server.  There is no need for these external entities to remote in, just need to transfer files over.

What's the best practice and the steps to accomplish this?

    Thank you!

  • Windows Advanced Firewall inbound rules are one way to do this in the OS of the VM

  • If I set up a custom rule with a whitelist of IPs, will it inerfere with the Inbound Remote Desktop (TCP-Ip) allow all setting?

  • You have two possibilities.

IPsec (IP security) rules, and Advanced Firewall rules.

IPsec rules are about trusting machines at a machine to machine communication level.  Then you have Advanced Firewall rules that go down to the application / port / direction rules.
