delivering audio and video securely through my website RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a website with various videos that can by played by the HTML5  video tag.  To convince customers to use it, those videos should be:

    1) delivered securely so that they can't be intercepted by a hacker

    2) delivered in a way that doesn't swamp bandwidth (streaming?)

    3) delivered in a way so that the user can drag the square on the video control bar to the very end and quickly see the end of the video.

Does azure supply me with all these features?  Does it give me a https url (or some other method) of securely providing video via the video tag?   Can it handle all types of video, especially mp4, ogg, and webm?

  • Check out the Windows Azure Media Services to see if this service fits your needs. The basic building blocks are Encoding, Conversion, Protection, (Live) Streaming so this seems to match very closely with what you're looking for.

Since it uses Windows Azure storage there's a lot of bandwidth and low-latency options. Just make sure you do your pricing calculations on egress data and storage volume to keep a solid business case.
