Azure Portal - Multi Factor Authentication for Free Account

Is MFA allowed for free Azure accounts. My understanding is that it is not allowed.

However after reading at the following link, it seems that is MFA is only allowed for Admin accounts (and not for other users):

Yes and you have a note that leads to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/authentication/concept-mfa-licensing :

"Basic multi-factor authentication features are available to Microsoft 365 and Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) administrators for no extra cost. If you want to upgrade the features for your admins or extend multi-factor authentication to the rest of your users, you can purchase Azure Multi-Factor Authentication in several ways."

Or this is an admin account for some other feature? If it's a general Azure question rather than really on the dev site, you could also try https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/support/community/

Hi Patrice, thanks for replying.

Correct me - Azure free account uses 'security defaults' which only allows authentication through MS-Authenticator app . It doesn't allow SMS or Phone based authentication.

What I need is MFA (SMS, Phone) for the admin role in the Azure free account.
