SQL Server Agent fails to start under domain account RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

Seems there are a few posts already on this subject but nothing I have found could help. Reluctant to make registry level changes as a production host. Newly installed sql server 2008 r2 sp1 instance. Running alongside existing sql server 2005 instances. Have changed sqlserver and full text search services to run successfully against domain account. Cannot start sql server agent with same domain account. Have ensured domain account is part of the 3 local groups on the machines. Have ensured the 3 local groups + the domain account are setup as administrator in sql server. The domain account has full control on all relevant microsoft sql directories.

No error on sql server errorlog. Doesnt even generate a sql agent log. The only error is a Failure Aud  event in eventvwr with the msesage Login failed for user 'domain\account'. [CLIENT: <local machine>].  EventID 18456 Category 4.

    Please help

    Thanks

  • I recently encountered the same issue after applying sp1 on sql 2008 R2 instance, can you try changing the password from administrative tools->services (log on) then try restarting the account? Or from sql server configuration manager.

    Thanks
