How to set a snapshot name through WMI call (CreateVirtualSystemSnapshot)? RRS feed

  • Question

  •

I have an application that will be creating snapshots of virtual systems.  The call to create the snapshots (CreateVirtualSystemSnapshot) works fine, and they are created successfully.

Is there a way to set the name of that snaphot, preferably in the same call?  I see that through the Hyper-V Manager interface you can easily rename a shapshot - how can I perform that same function with a WMI call?

  • You need to set the element name on the snapshot object after it is created and then use ModifyVirtualSystemResources on Msvm_VirtualSystemManagementService.

  • That is wrong to call ModifyVirtualSystemResources. Instead, you need call ModifyVirtualSystem method.

  • Hi,

Any idea how an snapshot can be renamed in root\virtualization\v2?
