Help? DataGridView object disappears from Designer but still in properties. All troubleshooting avenues attempted RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a DataGridView object called DatagGridView2 which I was trying to arrange within a table inside the TableLayoutPanel along with other controls. After a while DataGridView2 suddenly disappeared. I checked every cell in the table and it wasn't in there. I deleted the table. The object shows up perfectly fine in the Properties section but when I click on it the the resize controls for it don't show up anywhere.

    Things already tried:

    > Setting Location to 0,0 in properties section - No difference

    > Resizing the object to various sizes - No difference

    > Formatting all other objects to "Send to back" - No difference

    > Ensuring DataGridView2 is set to Visible (via Properties) - No difference

    > Restarting Visual Studio and reopening the project - No difference

The object is still only appearing in the Properties menu and nowhere else.

Can anyone tell me what I am missing from here? I have a lot of formatting in that particular object and so don't want to lose it as it will take me hours to reformat.

    Thanks :)

  • Do with the form design selected

View -> Other Windows -> Document Outline. (or CTRL Alt T)

Now you can most probably see that dataGridView in it.

  • Hi Aronics,

You can try Cor's suggestion, first Ctrl+Alt+T, left-click DataGridView in the document online-form, and see if the datagridview show.

You can also upload your project into the OneDrive, It is beneficial to us to analyze issue.

    Best Regards,

  • Thank you very much for your response. I opened the Document Outline following your advice. DataGridView2 is not in there which is weird because it is still in the properties box and all of its settings are still in there. Is there any other way to recover it at this stage?

    Thanks

  • Go to solution explorer

Click in top on Show All Files

    Open the yourprogram.designer.vb file

    There should your datagridview be.

Other possibilities are not available or there should be a star fallen.

    Success
