  • Thank you Vincent Chen  , this resolved the issue for me

Here are the detailed instructions for setting up the MDS, in case that somebody needs it:

    The

Master Data Manager web application is hosted by Internet Information Services (IIS).

Windows Internet Explorer version 7, 8, or 9 must be used as a client tool. Older versions

of Internet Explorer are not supported. In addition, Master Data Manager needs Microsoft

Silverlight 5. If Silverlight 5 is not installed on your computer, you will be prompted to install

it when you navigate to a page in Master Data Manager where Silverlight 5 is needed for

the first time. The Master Data Services web application needs the following Windows Web

    Server roles and role services:

    ■■

    Common HTTP Features

    ■■

    Static Content

    ■■

    Default Document

    ■■

    Directory Browsing

    ■■

    HTTP Errors

    ■■

    Application Development

    ■■

    ASP.NET

    ■■

    .NET Extensibility

    ■■

    ISAPI Extensions

    ■■

    ISAPI Filters

    ■■

    Health and Diagnostics

    ■■

    HTTP Logging

    ■■

    Request Monitor

    578

    Chapter 15

    Implementing Master Data Services

    ■■

    Security

    ■■

    Windows Authentication

    ■■

    Request Filtering

    ■■

    Performance

    ■■

    Static Content Compression

    ■■

    Management Tools

    ■■

    IIS Management Console.

In addition, the Master Data Manager application requires that you have the following

    Windows features enabled:

    ■■

.NET Framework 3.0 or 3.5 Features

    ■■

    WCF Activation

    ■■

    HTTP Activation

    ■■

    Non-HTTP Activation

    ■■

    Windows Process Activation Service

    ■■

    Process Model

    ■■

    .NET Environment

    ■■

    Configuration APIs

In the Windows Server 2008 or Windows Server 2008 R2 operating system, you use the

Server Manager administrative tool to install the appropriate roles and features. In Windows

Vista or Windows 7, you use Programs And Features from Control Panel to install the neces

    sary

    roles and features.

    Exam Tip

Remember that the Master Data Services web application requires specific Windows Web

Server roles and role services, and you must have specific Windows features enabled. It is

not enough to use only SQL Server Setup to install the MDS web application.

  • This is definitely a very special error. After following quite a few articles online and figuring out that everything is as it should be, the Event log had the answer, which was that the server will not process any new service requests as the memory utilisation is 95% or over (i.e. less than 5% free RAM). Freeing up memory by killing processes solved the problem:

WebHost failed to process a request.
