Adding Descriptions in VB.NET Using System.ComponentModel.DescriptionAttribute

    Question

  • I am trying to add descriptions to my properties and methods using the System.ComponentModel.DescriptionAttribute attribute in my Windows Store app. I do not see the System.Component namespace listed in the Referencessection for my project (although I do see System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations and System.ComponentModel.DataAnnotations.Schema). If I try to type the full namespace for the attribute, it lets me do System.ComponentModel, but DescriptionAttribute is not listed as an option. Why is System.Component not listed in References, and how can I add descriptions to my properties and methods in VB.NET? Thanks.

  • As documented, DescriptionAttribute is not available in the .Net Framework for Windows Store apps. See http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.componentmodel(v=vs.110).aspx

  • OK, I guess that explains why I can't add that attribute. But is there an equivalent or similar attribute that will instruct Visual Studio to display a description for a property or method? I would have thought that this attribute would be in all variations of .NET, but if not, I would find it hard to believe that there is not an alternative for .NET for Windows Store apps. Is there an alternative? Thanks.
