Oracle Connection request hangs after idle time RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

My application is developed with .NET Framework 2.0 and its database is recently migrated from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g. Post migration, I am facing some connection loss issues, which cause the application to hang, without any error. I am using .Net Provider System.Data.OracleClient for setting up the connection.

The application is hosted on Win 2008 server, and the connection string doesn't specify any connection pooling parameters. ample below:

    Connection String: Data Source = <name>;User ID= <user>;Pwd=<pass>

This is a server side windows application which pumps transactions into a database, as received from upstream files. It works fine most of the time, but after an idle time of 5 mins or so, the connections are lost and any new request to open a connection with Oracle takes application to hung state

    Points to note

    • I am closing and disposing connections after each transactions
    • There are no connection pooling parameters defined in connnection string
    • There are no firewalls in place
    • The application works well with Oracle 10g

    Kindly help.
