Performance of System.Diagnostics.StackFrame decreases in Windows 10 (1709) and .NET Framework 4.7.1 RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are affected of the performance decrease with the StackFrame class under Windows 10 (1709). Microsoft is aware of this issue https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4057154/performance-of-system-diagnostics-stackframe-degrades-in-windows-10-17.

Our problem is, that we have to release a new version of our software and need to know if this issue will be fixed and when.

  • Hi Stefan Weis,

    Thank you for posting here.

For your question, have you tried the solution provided in the link?

    1. Method 1 (preferred)
Use a different constructor for StackFrame that takes a boolean argument.
    2. Method 2
      Roll back the system version.

If you want to get the confirm information, you could post in UserVoice. And feedback the link. We will vote it.

  • Hi Wendy,

    thank you for your response.

The suggestions provided in the link aren't solutions for us.

We can't implement Method 1, because the contructor is being called in the property System.Diagnostics.TraceEventCache.Callstack.

Method 2 could only be an temporary solution. We can't prevent our customers from using the latest version of Windows.

I'm afraid we have no other choice but to forego the stacktrace.

    Best Regards,

    Stefan
