    Hello All,

    We have setup where our FTP server is configured on source computer. Now we wanted to migrate the same to destination server.

    Is it possible to do the same seamlessly, as its our production environment. (server/IIS details are provided below)

    Source Server- Windows server 2003 R2 Ent edition + SP2 ===IIS-6.0

    Destination server-Windows server 2008 R2 Ent edition ====IIS-7.0

    Regards,

    As far as the FTP data itself, you would just copy it over to the new location.  If you're talking about the FTP sites and configuration, there is not a way to do it as mentioned in this thread;  http://forums.iis.net/t/1166644.aspx.  You have to create a new FTP site(s) on the IIS 7 server.

    Since you are using a URL to connect to FTP, once you have setup FTP on IIS 7 and confirmed that it works as expected, you would just update DNS to point to the new server.  If possible, you should set the TTL on DNS for the domain to 5 minutes for a day or two before the switch over so that it takes quickly for most people, remembering to switch it back to the default (usually 1 hour) after the migration.

    I don't completely understand what you are trying to accomplish based on your post.

    You can setup FTP on the IIS 7 server while FTP is also running on IIS 6.  Test it on IIS 7 before you switch it over.

    How are you connecting to FTP, through a URL?  Any other details you can provide will be helpful in determing a recommended course of action.

    Hi Rick,

    Thanks for reply,

    Presently FTP is running on W2K3 R2  & new W2K8 R2 server is ready with OS & patches. (Both server belongs to same domain)

    As you said i can setup FTP server on IIS7 while old FTP running.

    I wanted to know how to backup the existing FTP data & restore it in new server for testing.

    BTW i am connecting to FTP through URL which is accessible overinternet.

    Regds,
