encrypting connections to SQL server RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello All,

Recently I haven been tasked to configure the databases on my MSSQL 2005 server to enable encryption.  I have done much searching and research.  I have found article ID 316898 another article entitled "Encrypting Connection to SQL Server" from msdn.  The problem I am having is with the actual act of getting a certificate so that the SQL Server Network Configuration can see the existence of the certificate.  I must admit my knowledge regarding certificates is limited to none.  I know in my AD organization there is no CA server.  I cannot create one within my organization.  I do have the ability to go to verisign to get one but then I need to generate a CSR but my SQL server does not have IIS installed for me to generate a CSR file.  I just don't know where to start or go for help.  Hoping this SQL fourm get help me go in the right direction.

    Thanks
    Roger
