Entirely web based app development.

    Question

  • Im trying to accomplish creating my app in the most efficient way possible. Instead of developing my app for Ipads, Android tablets, Windows 8 etc individually im in the process of writting a website (PHP, HTML5, Javascript, Mysql backend) which behaves as an app and is thus the same for all platforms (eg using Webview in Android to embed the site into an app).

Is it acceptable to do this to make my Windows 8 app as long as it fits in with the metro look and supports gesture controls etc? Im already going to be doing this for the other platforms but thought id check to see what others think.

(Im aware that you can use javascript to make an app via VS but my enquiry is different)

    Thanks.

  • Hi Z,

Are you asking if you app can be essentially nothing more than you web browser, then no... The store will most likely reject your app (I am not the store so you could take your chances).  Simply use IE 10 if you want a WebBased app!

If you are asking can you reuse your code in an app, Absolutely!
