Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate and IE 11 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

On the system requirements page it says that VS 2013 Ultimate requires IE 10. However yesterday I did a clean install of Windows 8.1 Pro on my machine and realized that it has IE 11. So I would like to know if VS 2013 will still work with IE 11 or not. I have seen some people getting error messages like this when they try to install VS 2013 Ultimate with an IE version less than 10. Logically speaking IE 11 shouldn't be an issue because it is higher than 10. However I would like to know if there are people out there who have successfully installed VS 2013 Premium/Ultimate etc. on Windows 8.1 with IE 11 on it.

Note - I don't want to hear personal opinions and stories. Please reply only if you have successfully installed VS 2013 Ultimate/Premium on a Windows 8.1 machine with IE 11 on it.

    Thanks

  • The download comes with a trial license, and you have to either purchase or apply your product key, or register it against your MSDN account, to extend beyond the trial period.

This can be done via the Account Settings... dialog, that you can invoke via icon/dropdown in the upper right corner of the IDE.

  • Yes, I've installed VS 2013 onto Win8.1 systems repeatedly. :-)

That warning should state IE 10 or later. I'll get a bug into the setup team for this.

  • Thanks for the reply. I installed it using Web Installer and it took around 1 hour to install the ultimate version. However when I started it, it gave me a message saying - "license has expired". Now there is only 1 button saying - OK. If I click on that Visual Studio just shuts down. How to get around it? I will be getting the product key as soon as it becomes available through Microsoft Dreamspark.

Anyway there was some driver issue so I did another clean install of Windows 8.1 on my laptop. But now I am waiting till Ultimate 2013 becomes available on Dreamspark. Only then I will try to install it.Did you encounter a similar issue?

    Thanks

  • Thanks for the reply Ed. However after its installation through ultimate's web installer I get a message saying "The license has expired" and there is just an OK button to click on. If I click on that then the VS 2013 closes. There is nowhere else to click and I don't have a MSDN subscription however through university's dreamspark premium subscription I will be getting Ultimate product key. Anyway I had to do another clean install of my machine due to a driver issue so VS 2013 is gone now but I don't want to mess it up again so I will wait till it becomes available on dreamspark. But do you know why I could be getting that error message - "The license has expired" even though I just did a fresh install?

    Thanks

  • Thanks Ed. I downloaded the ISO and now it works correctly. It says that I have 30 days to enter the product key. Looks like web installer has some problems. It said the license has expired. Not sure what was happening there.

  • I have this same problem.  I tried installing the Dreamspark edition of VS 2013 Pro both by the ISO and the Web Install utility and get the License has expired problem in both cases.  I can't get to the Account Settings because I'm stuck in the "Product Information" box that only allows me to close the whole IDE.

Any other possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!
