  • Yes. (In general)

There are some changes to the way that DLLs are handled in the July CTP. In particular, some of the core DLLs have been move to the GAC and renamed. If you run DssProjectMigration it will fix up these references for you.

In general, you should always run DssProjectMigration after installing a new version, even a CTP. This will ensure that you have all of the latest changes incorporated.

  • If you uninstall CTP1 (April 2008), it will remove all the CTP1 files and leave the project files that were created by the user. Then if you install CTP2 (July 2008) over the same directory as CTP1, which is by default "%UserProfile%\Microsoft Robotics Dev Studio 2008", the installer will take care of the migration and will silently run DssProjectMigration at the end of the installation. This will migrate all the user projects to compile with the new runtime.

In case you noticed that you are unable to compile your older projects, the setup might have been failed to do the migration, also if your projects are stored somewhere other than under the installation directiory, you should run DssProjectMigration manually.

  • Nice new feature! However, it never hurts to run DssProjectMigration :-)
