  • Hi,

just in addition to the reply of Lana:

Such installations in the background can even be started automatically e.g. through automatic updates.

Most installations are using the Microsoft Installer which can only do one installation at a time. So if there is already an installation running, a second setup cannot start.

To solve this issue, often you can simply wait for the installation to end (or check your open windows - not that it is an installation you started that is waiting for input!) and then start the installation you want to do (e.g. Visual Studio).

If the setup does not finish, then you might try to reboot the system (reboot, never power off the system!). BUT ONLY DO THIS AS LAST RESORT! Interrupting an installation can always corrupt your system even that Microsoft spend a lot of effort to avoid that! And of course: Try not to force the shutdown of the system if a process needs to finish first. (Only as a last resort again after waiting some longer time!)

But as Lana said already: Before installing Visual Studio it is recommend to check the windows updates to make sure that the system is up to date. Don't forget a reboot so that all installed updates are applied!

    With kind regards,

    Konrad

  • Hi jeetthecoder,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

    >>setup blocked.Another setup is already running. Please wait for it to finish before trying again.

For this error message, have you tried to run other software setup or install more than two VS edition?

If not, firstly, please take the following tips before doing VS setup:• Disable anti-virus or anti-spyware software.
    • Check windows update and make sure the patches all up.
    • Clear %TEMP% folder.
    • Run the installer as administrator.

We need to ensure that other application or process won't affect or preventing running VS.

Then, I recommend you download the ISO, verify the SHA-1 to ensure the ISO is not corrupt, then install locally.
VS 2015 iso Microsoft official download link:
    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/download-visual-studio-vs.aspx
VS 2015 iso files SHA-1 Values link:
    https://www.visualstudio.com/en-us/downloads/visual-studio-2015-iso-sha1-vs.aspx

PS: To make sure whether your package is corrupted or not,
please use FCIV.exe http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841290  to verify hash of the ISO.

If the above still doesn't help, I need you installation log file to troubleshoot this issue,
please use  http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip from %temp% folder. Please upload the file to  https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here
