Port mirror on many database RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear everyone,

Now I am set up the redundancy server for MS SQL database, I have a question:

My principal server (MS SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2 SP3) is : 192.168.1.11

My mirroring server (MS SQL Server 2008 Enterprise R2 SP3) is : 192.168.1.12

My Witness server is (MS SQL Server 2008 Express R2 SP3) : 192.168.1.13

On my principal (active database) server, I have MS SQL Server is running and has three databases:

    1 - Payroll

    2 - Insurance

    3 - Finance

I already synchronize Payroll database with config:

My principal server (192.168.1.11) using port 5022

My mirroring server (192.168.1.12) using port 5023

My Witness server (192.168.1.13) using port 5024

My question is if I continue set up Mirroring for two remain database (Insurance and Finance), I can continue using the same current ports or I must choose another ports, any conflicts with ports?

    Thank you everyone!

  • port are at instance/server level so you will use same port number for all database. Port number 5022 on which you have configured currently, server will listen for database mirroring messages on that port. so all databases will use same port.

In short SQL Server instance can have only one database mirroring endpoint. All databases in that instance that are involved in database mirroring must use the same endpoint.
