DepthBasics: Creating a Capture App RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Background: Our group is trying to create an app in order to gather the raw depth data from the Kinect.

Issue: Needs a fast way to write or save array of depth values for each frame. If we can find a fast way to write to a file approximately 100,000 integers, that would be wonderful. This needs to happen approximately 30 times per second. Otherwise, if we can compress and allocate the data to another object, then great, it can be written to file later.

Tried standard methods but it was slow with too many iterations per second.

Any help or suggestions in how to approach this problem?

  • Have you looked at Kinect Studio? There is a fully supported api set for internal applications based on having the SDK. If this is something you plan to deploy to customer then you will need to roll your own.
