How to upgrade from Visual Studio 2008 to latest version?

    Question

  • Hello All,

We have an application (Production and Development both) in Visual Studio 2008-Professional Edition. There are 8 projects in it and all are in use. The back end DB is SQL 2000. I would like to know how to upgrade to the 2015 version of Visual Studio Professional Edition with minimum affect to the client users.

    Thanks & Regards,

    Manali

  • Hi Manali,

    Thanks for your post.

As far as I Know, VS2015 can open the solutions from VS2013 and VS2012.  But VS2008 is an such old version of VS. I can't find any official document about how to upgrade from VS2008 to VS2015.

    Reference:

    https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh266747.aspx

But if you want to upgrade the solution from VS2008. There might be some compatibility issues. Before doing upgrade, I suggest you could backup your solution and DB file then try it.

    Best Regards,
