The security certificate for host does not match the name of the page you are trying to view RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have published a schema as a wcf service with WCF-WSHttp adapter. When I am adding this wsdl as  a service reference in a visual studio project, there is an error like:

the security certificate for host does not match the name of the page you are trying to view

Please suggest me possible way to resolve this error.

  • Hi Udal,

Thank you for posting on MSDN forum.

    CAUSE

The common name that you specified when you generated the certificate request for that Web site does not match the URL that is used to access the Web site. For example, if you access the site by typing an IP address or the server name, but the common name that is specified in the certificate request is www.adatum.com, you receive the security message.

    RESOLUTION

To avoid this warning, make sure that the common name that is specified when you generate the certificate request matches the URL that will be used to access the site.

If the URL that will be used to access the site cannot be changed to match the common name on the certificate, follow these steps:

    • Create another certificate request. Make sure that the common name matches the URL that is used to access the Web site.
    • Have your certification authority generate a new certificate.
    • Use the new certificate for the Web site.

  • Are you able to browse the end-point through a browser? Are you using a DNS alias in your service endpoint? Have you accidentally forgotten to exclude this path from the "bypass proxy" on your VS client? Is this http or https? Is your service certificate (IIS) valid?

    Regards.
