Outlook mail items appear as drafts in Web App inbox RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

We develop an Outlook Add-in which processes mail items and saves the modified items afterwards. Now, we came across a strange problem with Exchange accounts: all processed mail items in the inbox are flagged as drafts - but only in the Outlook Web App, NOT in Outlook itself.

Checking the items with MFCMAPI, we could determine that no draft flag is actually set in the mail item itself.

Any idea, how the web app determines whether an item should be handled as draft or not? We only see this problem when the client uses Outlook 2010/2013/2016 through Exchange. With IMAP, this doesn't happen.

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hello Jou,

What code did you run to get such results in the web browser?

  • Hi Eugene,

    thanks for your fast reply.

Basically, we take the mail item, process all of its content and write our modified stuff back to it. This contains body, subject, recipients, attachments as well as some MAPI properties like conversation index and topic.

The strange thing is that Outlook itself detects those items correctly, whereas the web app treats them as drafts.

We are thankful for any hint or idea that could point us in the right direction.

  • Hi Jou,

I suggest you change these properties one by one to check which property cause this issue.

To check whether it is related with your code and Outlook Product issue, I suggest you manually change these properties from Outlook to see whether they will be flagged as drafts.

In addition, I suggest you check whether the link below will be helpful.
