Copying a selection into a new document RRS feed

  • How do I select an area of an image and copy it to a new file?

  • You will have to make a clipping path for the area you want to keep.  Select both the image and the clipping path and use Object>Clipping path>Make with Top / Bottom Path (depending on your path).  You can Copy the clipped object and Paste it into a new file/ document.  It remains a clipped object in the new file and can still be edited.

    Three ways instead of using Copy/Paste :

    1. You can set crop marks (File>Crop Marks>Set) on the desired area or
    2. Define the area as a Slice (Slice tool-K) or
    3. Use Object>Image>Create Image Object

    Then use File>Export (choice of format) and finally use File>Import to bring it into the new file/document; basically, it's creating a bitmap to export and import.
