Compatibility of Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel with MS Office 2019 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have a windows form application build using Visual Studio 2012. Application is running on Windows server 2008 R2 where MS Office 2010 is installed.

Currently, Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll - has been used in application to open the excel files using MS Office 2010.

Application is running perfectly at client end. Now my client has requested to upgrade the version of Microsoft Office 2010 to Microsoft Office 2019.

    1. Will Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel.dll - library support Microsoft Office 2019?

    2. Will the format of my Excel reports generating currently remain same when office version will be upgraded?

  • I have run into an issue where my reference to Microsoft Excel 16.0 Object Library does not allow the program to run with office 2019. The error I get is shown below. I expect your client will get the same.

Is there a resolution to this issue?

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: 'Retrieving the COM class factory for component with CLSID {00024500-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} failed due to the following error: 80040154 Class not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040154 (REGDB_E_CLASSNOTREG)).'
