I can see my website online, but get 404 error when ping IP address ? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All, My website www.tradingboundaries.com appears to work and is a shared site on Azure. If I ping the IP address I get a 404 error. Can anyone explain to me how this can be true and how I can ping the host pproperly. Thanks

  • absolutely.. this a common scenario and luckily its easy to solve.

obviously the sample needs minor (in my case literally it was under 30 min effort to fit my needs) modifications to be prod ready and deploy as a site monitoring dashboard.. this is also available as sample under visual studio tools and extension window.

Brady also gave link to the Github repository containing the source code

and also gave a demo video with step by step instructions

    I hope this helps

  • pings are blocked in Azure..this is expected behaviour, is there a reason you wanted ping to work or just want to check if site is up?

  • Hi, I wanted to check that ping worked as my client has used website checking services such as http://cloudmonitor.ca.com/ to see it internationally and getting results saying the site is not working. This is causing much criticism. Is there some way I can show them the site is working properly?

  • Hi, Thank you for this guidance and clearing up the ping issue. I have an issue that the website works in the UK but not the US. www.tradingboundaries.com. If there any logical reason for this on Azure as I find this perplexing. Why can it work in one area and not another. Is there some setting I should be aware of. Thanks

The site should work from everywhere. There must be something wrong from the machine where you are accessing it.

How are you trying to find whether it works from US or UK? I just browsed your site from Australia and it works from here as well.

  • Hi Ian,

the website works and works pretty fast in US (I am on west coast) see the screen shot

I believe its either the network that may be blocking website to open at your side or it may be something on the machine that may be blocking it..
