    Are you sure?  It is much more likely that you are trying to communicate with a device that is connected via the USB port.  There is usually no reason to communicate with a USB port, unless you are writing a device driver.  

    For instance, if you have connected a USB to Serial converter to the USB port, then you connect to a serial device. 

    If it's a device, not the port, then what are the details of the device?   Does the manufacturer provide a device driver for it, or is it a device that Windows recognises and installs for you?
